Today I’m sharing poha recipe, this is a common breakfast in Mumbai and most of you know well about it, but I’m Sharing it for those unaware of this delicious light breakfast, poha is nothing but flattened rice flakes also called as beaten rice. Let’s have a look!
- 1 &1/2 cup poha (flattened rice)
- Jeera (cumin seeds)
- Rai (Mustard seeds)
- 1 potato (chopped in small cubes)
- 1-2 green chillies (chopped)
- 1 onion chopped
- Salt,turmeric, red chilli powder, sugar
Cooking time – 20min
1.Rinse poha 2-3 time under running water, make sure you don’t over rinse or it will end up mushy and too soft. I should become slightly soft after rinsing.
Now add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, some salt and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Gently Mix well using hands as spoon will break the rice flakes. Keep it aside
Heat oil in a non stick pan, once the oil is hot add 1/4 tea spoon of mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
3.Now add chopped potatoes, let it cook half through.
Once your potatoes are almost cooked add onions and roasted peanuts and green chilles. You can also roast regular peanuts by – switch off a gas (no oil required) keep the flame slow, keep tossing the peanuts until it’s aromatic.
4. Once the onions are cooked add salt, 1/4 tea spoon of red chilli powder. Now add in your poha.
Mix all the ingredients well then cover it with lid add cook for 5-6 minutes on a medium to low flame.
Garnish it with coriander leaves and a slice of lemon. Your maharashtrian style poha is ready!
